He was also in his "Steamboat Willie" outfit in a portion of the 1988 Disney on Ice show "Mickey Mouse's Diamond Jubilee", complete with peg leg and cigar (though he didn't have those in the actual "Steamboat Willie" short). His body was unusually small so he could fit in the van, and his mask also included a cigar in his mouth, as back then, Pete was known for smoking cigars. In the mid-to-late 1980s, Pete was a parade-only character, appearing in Disney's "Fantasy on Parade" driving a dog catcher's van. I figured they were going to go with his friendly overalls look ala "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and its' follow-up shows, the way they ended up doing.īut back in the 1980s, Pete HAS appeared in costume form a couple of times. Me and several other furries and Disney theme park fans online were really excited about this, as after all these years, Pete is finally a meetable character at the Disney parks! I was often hoping someday Pete would be a Disney theme park character, but of course, since he was originally a villain to Mickey and Minnie Mouse (hence Pete being a cat), they would have to make him look somewhat less intimidating to small kids. Patrick's Day morning, I guess I had a little luck of the Irish, because when browsing the web over breakfast and coffee, I was surprised to hear that as part of the Disneyland Resort refreshing the Mickey's Toontown land, a new meetable walkaround character is joining them.
